Dallas, TX – The Dallas Cowboys’ season could not have started on a worse note. Prescott was benched after completing just 4 of 7 passes for 42 yards, throwing three costly interceptions. His replacement, rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, didn’t fare much better, going 3 for 7 with 35 yards, five sacks, and a 58.6 passer rating. The offense was lifeless, amassing only 30 passing yards and 9 first downs the entire game.
Bryan Anger, unfortunately, saw plenty of action, punting four times for 222 yards, averaging 55.5 yards per punt.
On defense, cornerback Caelen Carson led the team with seven tackles, while the Cowboys failed to generate any turnovers. Malik Hooker added five tackles, but Dallas’s defense gave up scores on nearly every Black Knights possession.
McCarthy’s decision to pull Prescott in the second quarter, though justifiable after the quarterback’s disastrous start, signals potential turmoil ahead. The Cowboys’ offseason was already marred by uncertainty with the selection of Sanders in the draft. Owner Joe Lowe expressed his support for the coach but acknowledged the frustration. “At the end of the day, we trust Mike to make the right calls, but we know things need to change fast.”
