FRISCO, Texas — As if starting the season 0-2 wasn’t enough to stir up frustrations in Dallas, trade rumors surrounding defensive star Micah Parsons have thrown even more fuel on the fire. With whispers of a potential move involving the Cowboys’ defensive cornerstone, fans are left wondering: does this organization truly want to win?
The speculation comes in the wake of last year’s shocking trade of star cornerback Trevon Diggs, a move that puzzled many and signaled the team might be prioritizing future assets over immediate success. Now, with the Cowboys once again in the midst of early-season struggles, rumors of Parsons being shopped have cast doubt over the team’s commitment to turning things around.
Team owner Joe Lowe was quick to address the rumors in an interview on Wednesday, dismissing the notion that Parsons would be on the move. “Micah Parsons is not going anywhere,” Lowe said firmly. “I don’t know where these rumors started, but it’s not true. We’re building something here, and Micah is a huge part of that. We’re committed to turning this thing around.”
Parsons, for his part, seemed unfazed by the swirling trade talk. “I just want to win,” Parsons told reporters. “That’s all that matters to me. I love playing here, and I believe in what we can do. We just have to keep grinding.”
The timing of these rumors couldn’t be worse for the Cowboys, who are off to a winless 0-2 start. The offense, led by rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, has failed to score a single touchdown through the first two weeks, and Victor Price’s offensive play-calling has come under heavy scrutiny.
With morale already low and questions about leadership mounting, the idea of trading Parsons—arguably the best player on the roster—has only added to fan anxiety.
Head Coach Mike McCarthy tried to put the rumors to rest as well, speaking highly of Parsons during Thursday’s press availability. “Micah is the anchor of this defense,” McCarthy said. “He’s a leader in that locker room, and we’re not trading him. There’s no truth to that.”
While the reassurance from Lowe and McCarthy may ease some concerns, the fact that these rumors even surfaced points to deeper issues within the organization. Last year’s controversial trade of Trevon Diggs sent shockwaves through the locker room, and many are questioning if the Cowboys’ front office is truly committed to building a contender.
As the team prepares for a critical Week 3 matchup against the Denver Broncos, all eyes will be on both the field and the front office. A win could stabilize things and restore some confidence, but a loss would only add more fuel to the fire. With Parsons’ future seemingly secure—at least for now—the focus must shift to getting results on the field.
“This team has the pieces,” McCarthy insisted. “We’ve just got to execute better. It starts with coaching, and it starts this week in Denver.”
For now, Parsons will remain a Cowboy, but the cloud of doubt hanging over the franchise continues to grow. If Dallas can’t right the ship soon, one has to wonder: what direction is this team really headed?
